City of London Area Guide

The City of London has been the financial heart of London for many centuries and measuring only 1.12 square miles, it is commonly known as The Square Mile.  The City of London houses around 9000 residents but employs more than 500,000 people.

While still being primarily a business district, over the last fifteen years The City of London has been transformed through the introduction of modern residential developments and the conversion of existing commercial and industrial sites into apartments, retail space and restaurants.  Today’s City resident has a wide choice of options, from original warehouse apartments to luxury, high-rise developments with facilities such as residents' gyms, lounges and bars.

City living has many advantages quite apart from the obvious possibility of walking to work. The City of London features stunning and varied architecture from St. Paul’s Cathedral (once the world’s tallest building) and to the "Gherkin", the Lloyds Building and the controversial "Walkie-Talkie" at 20 Fenchurch Street.  The City offers a unique and ever-changing backdrop and an enticing mix of old and new.

Getting Around
The City of London is within easy walking distance of many other interesting areas such as Shoreditch, Spitalfields, Clerkenwell and London Bridge.   Equally, it has unbeatable transport connections, including access to the Central Line for access east and to the West End, and to the Northern Line to London Bridge or Kings Cross for access to the Eurostar.
