Spitalfields Area Guide
Situated just to the east of the City of London, Spitalfields offers an enticing mix of the old and new. The conversion of the Old Spitalfields Market into a new office, restaurant and shopping complex in 2006 signalled the start of a mass redevelopment of the area. Spitalfields Market has become a shopping destination with a combination of independent shops as well as luxury brands. Traditional pubs sit alongside contemporary bars and restaurants catering for all tastes. Brick Lane, traditionally famous for its curry houses, has become a centre for vintage clothing, art exhibitions and street food. Shoreditch is also within easy walking distance, known for some of London's best bars and clubs as well as Boxpark, the first pop-up shopping centre constructed entirely from shipping containers. Tenants of Spitalfields can choose from a wide variety of properties from Georgian houses, to warehouse apartments, from office conversions to luxury developments with communal facilities such as gyms and swimming pools. Spitalfields offers real character within a short walk of the heart of the financial centre.
Getting Around
